About us: Our Story

Our faith and shared values tell us that every person has a God-given purpose. Where poverty and injustice hold people back from that purpose, you can help them break free from suffering. You can help them fulfil their potential.

Islamic Relief Australia is a humanitarian and development organisation dedicated to overcoming all kinds of injustice globally. From fighting poverty to alleviating the suffering of people caught in disasters and conflict.

We seek to improve the lives of some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people through relief, development, and advocacy work.

We are a network of changemakers. A united team made up of committed volunteers, donors, community members, partners and staff, working to empower communities in need and create positive change in the world. 

Our Vision 

Inspired by our Islamic faith and guided by our values, we envisage a world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled and people respond as one to the suffering of others. We believe those in need have rights over people with wealth and power – regardless of race, political affiliation, gender, or belief.

Our Mission 

Exemplifying our Islamic values, we will mobilise resources, build partnerships and develop local capacity as we work to: 

• Enable communities to mitigate the effects of disasters, prepare for their occurrence and respond by providing relief, protection, and recovery; 
• Promote integrated development and environmental custodianship with a focus on sustainable livelihoods; and 
• Support the marginalised and vulnerable to voice their needs and address the root causes of poverty.
