Almsgiving, or Zakat (also Zakaat, Zakah), is a vital act of worship, being one of the five pillars of Islam. The other pillars include Shahadah, Salat, Sawm (fasting), and Hajj.
Zakat is also formally known as Zakat al Mal (or Zakat al Maal). It refers to the amount every sane, adult Muslim who owns wealth over a certain amount (Nisab) must pay every lunar (hawl) year. This is 2.5 of your wealth that year.
“And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.”
Qur’an | Al Baqarah | 2:110
At Islamic Relief, your Zakat is an Amanah (trust), and we take that responsibility very seriously
Your donations transform the lives of generations of families. They power some of our most crucial work, providing relief to millions of people living in war zones, poverty, disease, and climate disasters around the world.
Together, we’ve given essential aid to families in drought and famine-struck countries across East Africa. We’ve supported communities affected by earthquakes in Türkiye and Syrian refugee communities.
And we continue to provide hope for our brothers and sisters facing unimaginable suffering, in Gaza, Sudan and worldwide.
