Clean and safe water is the key to life.
Providing this valuable resource to vulnerable communities as charity is the most rewarding of all.
Nearly every single living organism needs water to survive. Yet across the globe, a staggering 2 BILLION people — ONE IN EVERY FOUR — do not have access to it.
Without clean water to drink, people can’t live. They face risk of dehydration, disease and at worst: death.
Without water for crops and livestock, they can’t eat enough or earn a living. If their water isn’t clean, they won’t be healthy. If it comes from a faraway source, they have to spend their days seeking it instead of going to school or earning an income – this affects women and girls the most.
Your donation is a vital means of survival for so many who don’t have access to this basic human necessity.
A United Nations publication, Safe Water as the Key to Global Health, stated: “No other single intervention is more likely to have a significant impact on global poverty than the provision of safe water.”
It is the key to immunity and health, helping families prevent disease and early death. A key to ensuring children can go to school and achieve their full potential. A key to empowering girls and women so they can reclaim their health, dignity, safety, and success.
The key to a healthy life starts here. With water. With you.
Here at Islamic Relief, we’re working worldwide in over 40 countries across the globe to ensure that not only do communities have a safe and reliable source of water for today, but for life too.
We ensure communities have a sustainable source of clean water for years to come. We recognise the risk of drought, displacement, and disease. With over thirty years of expertise, we know that simply drilling wells and installing water pumps cannot solve a water crisis.
We bypass short-term interventions and high running costs to instead provide long-term sustainable solutions, installing irrigation systems, building water tanks, training communities, distributing hygiene kits, and rehabilitating viable water systems.
With your support, Islamic Relief has been able to provide clean water and infrastructure to over 844,000 people across 19 countries through our WASH projects.
In Somalia, most communities depend on water for their livelihoods, but only 30% of the population has access to it. This issue has worsened after the recent droughts, especially in the Rad and Lako villages in Puntland — among the worst affected by the disaster.
One of the ways Islamic Relief is combating the water crisis in Somalia through the drilling and equipping of a deep borehole in the Burtinle District, Nugal Region. The project supplies 7500 people with safe drinking water.
Lebanon is in an extreme economic crisis. Over 80 per cent of the entire population lives under the poverty line. They struggle to access the most basic needs, including water.
We are upgrading water supply networks in Akkar, North Lebanon, assisting 12,000 individuals. In addition, we are distributing personal hygiene kits and conducting awareness sessions for 500 individuals to help prevent the spread of disease.
A lack of proper water, sanitation and solid waste disposal facilities at schools exposes students to multiple risks of waterborne diseases. It also impacts negatively on learning outcomes and reduces attendance.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), up to 20% of schools do not have latrines. Up to 33% of schools also do not have clean drinking water facilities.
Islamic Relief aims to improve the overall health outcomes and quality of education for vulnerable children by rehabilitating water and sanitation services in schools in Pakistan. We are focusing on the school in the largest Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan, with a total of 1300 families, and a total of 700 students.
Islamic Relief Australa is also rehabilitating the sanitation system for the Girls College in Peshawar City, Pakistan.
The first phase of the project including the rehabilitation of the drinking water supply scheme and installation of a solar water filtration plant for the College. In total, the project benefits 6000 female students and more than 150 teaching staff.
In Indonesia, 20 million people do not have access to safe water, and 30 million people do not have access to healthy sanitation, leaving vulnerable populations at risk of contracting waterborne diseases, such as diarrhoea.
Islamic Relief is providing safe drinking water and sanitation for 5,119 rightholders in Indonesia. This includes constructing pipe systems that deliver clean water directly to families’ households in regions such as the Pandeglang district, Banten Province. We also train water management committees and establish sanitation and hygiene committees to improve community hygiene.
