Archery Ascension

Islamic Relief Australia partners with Archery Ascension to support locally led, community-based programs. Ones that strengthen wellbeing, inclusion, and social cohesion, particularly for people facing disadvantage, social exclusion, or disability-related barriers.

Who is Archery Ascension?

“Reviving tradition, creating culture, building community and transforming lives.”

Archery Ascension Centre Incorporated is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne, founded in 2020.

The centre delivers wellbeing and outdoor education through the sunnah of archery and horsemanship. It provides nature-based programming, with a strong emphasis on character development, community connection, and safe, structured learning environments.

What does Archery Ascension do?

Archery Ascension delivers a range of structured programs and pathways across Melbourne’s south-east and through outreach partnerships.

Weekly archery and horsemanship pathways (children, youth, adults)

Participants can progress from “come and try” introductions to competency-based levels and mentorship pathways. Through this journey, they build confidence, focus, responsibility, and teamwork.

Schools and youth programs

Archery Ascension has delivered programs for over 25 schools and community organisations. These programs have learning goals aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and are developed with input from educators and mental health practitioners. In turn, the programs strive to promote motor skill development, discipline and focus, cultural literacy, and social cohesion.

School holiday programs and family learning

Their Noble Roots School Holiday Program supports primary-aged children through structured physical development and wellbeing activities, with over 200 children participating over the years.

They also run a playgroup/homeschool program, combining outdoor learning, storytelling, animal interaction, and supervised family participation.

Youth development intensives and leadership

Programs such as youth intensives integrate structured sport and outdoor education with leadership and personal development outcomes.

Disability inclusion and therapeutic supports

Archery Ascension partners with specialist providers to strengthen accessibility and therapeutic integration. This includes culturally appropriate disability, mental health, and physical wellbeing supports.

Community events, outreach, and volunteering

Beyond weekly classes, Archery Ascension delivers community engagement activities (e.g., hikes, school incursions, collaborations) and hosts/participates in larger events and competitions, helping members build belonging and positive community contribution.

A growing need in Melbourne

Archery Ascension was created with a clear social purpose: to make archery accessible to communities of all ages and backgrounds through structured, safe, community-led delivery.
